Chief Operating Officer

The Episcopal Church

Upon the planned retirement of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Episcopal Church, the Church is seeking applications from qualified persons for this important position. The COO reports directly to the Presiding Bishop, the Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry at the Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York City. The COO oversees the work of Communications, Human Resources, Information Technology, and real estate management of DFMS-owned and leased facilities, including Church Center.


The COO serves on the Board of the Episcopal Relief and Development, facilitates the work of the Presiding Bishop’s staff leaders and supports the Presiding Bishop on matters concerning programs and staff management. The COO ensures that resolutions and initiatives of the General Convention and of the Executive Council are sufficiently staffed and supported by the operation resources reporting to this position. This is a joint appointment of the President of the House of Deputies and the Presiding Bishop. The COO is the chief administrative position of the Domestic and Foreign Mission Society and requires membership in good standing in the Episcopal Church.
